Popular Front of India will start the two month long National Campaign for Muslim Reservation with the Inaugural Public Meeting to be held at Pune in Maharashtra on Sunday 31 January 2010. Mr. Syed Shahabuddin (Ex-MP) who is the General Convener of National Movement for Muslim Reservation and Joint Committee of Muslim Organizations for Empowerment will formally inaugurate the National Campaign at Mahatma Phule Ground in Quarter Gate area of the city at 7.00 p.m. Chairman of Popular Front Mr. E. M. Abdul Rahiman will preside over the function. Maulana Usman Baig Rashadi (President, All India Imams Council), Mr. Suresh Khairnar (National Convener, All India Secular Forum), Mr. Abdul Hannan (Social Democratic Party of India) and Mr. Shubhas Ware (Third Front) are among the speakers.
The Campaign for Muslim Reservation during the months of February and March is launched in the backdrop of Justice Rangath Misra Commission report which has recommended 10% reservation to all Muslims in education and government employment. The campaign will include series of public awareness programmes such as pamphlets, posters, exhibitions, street meetings, vehicle caravans, rallies, seminars, street plays and cultural shows in various states during the campaign period.
Wall posters and hand bills highlighting the theme are being circulated in languages such as Urdu, Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Manipuri to suit the requirements of different states. The campaign will by and large cover 16 states. The call for a united movement for Muslim Reservation is well received and the community has come forward to organize awareness programmes in many Muslim concentrated cities. A Parliament March is scheduled on 18 March at New Delhi as part of the campaign.
